Solar Crisis
Project Overview
Solar Crisis is a 1st person action puzzle game were the player solves puzzles and defeats enemies to restore the solar reactor before solar flares destroy the planet. Solar Crisis was made by a fellow student and I over the course of a month as our first major project. For this project I assumed the Lead Design role and focused on level design and gameplay programming for the levels I designed.

-
Design Lead
-
Designed and created a 15 minute gameplay experience that focused on a puzzle solving and objective oriented gameplay flow.
-
Environment Design
-
Enemy/objective placement to maintain the flow of the game.
-
Puzzle creation and design
-
-
Designed core gameplay mechanics including:
-
Objective based gameplay system
-
Resource management system such as health, armor and ammo pickups
-
Created complex and interactive puzzles to test players knowledge of mechanics
-
Design Goals
-
Create an interactive puzzle game that engage the players' mind.
-
Design a hub based level similar to that of Dead Space where players work toward a main goal while having minor goals along the way.
-
Create unique experience through world building to enhance gameplay with mechanics such as going back in time.
This project gave me the opportunity to work with another designer to collaborate and cohesively bring out level designs together. I focused on bringing a fun and engaging gameplay flow to my levels through puzzle mechanics and enemy placement.
One of the major challenges I faced during the production of the project was a lack of scripting knowledge to support our designed mechanics. As a result we redesigned mechanics to to better accommodate our programming skills while still fitting within our original core gameplay.
